In support of AAUW’s national mission of advancing educational and professional opportunities for women, the Orlando/Winter Park Branch of AAUW provides educational scholarships to women. Funding for scholarships comes from branch fund-raising activities, individual contributions of its members and a generous bequest from Ruth Riales. Although not college-educated, Ruth Riales valued education for women. In 2008, her donation created a legacy to help women achieve their educational goals. Scholarships are awarded annually to qualified applicants who are currently enrolled in a degree program at a regionally accredited college/university and working on a bachelor or an advanced degree. Preference is given to women who are pursuing a degree or career in a STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) field.
